SHOULD I DELAY INTERVIEW PROCESS FOR GREEN CARD ?

Question: I have a question about a family member who came to the us legally with a tourist visa when he was 2 years old. He is currently under 21 and is being petition by his parents that are green card holders (US permanent resident). He has clean record and is not currently working. He just got his work permit and social security, also he just got his interview date but the inmmigration lawyer said that most likely he will get that appointment reschedule because he feels it will be denied based on him not being able to prove that he was legally in the us when they petitioned for him. The lawyer knew this before hand and now I feel he seems concern in him being denied. I asked him if delaying the interview would help in anything and the lawyer said no but it will give him a chance to renew his work permit. Well the point of filling the forms was for him to get the green card not to delay the process for him to get a temporary work permit for 2 years and eventually get deported. I know this will not be used as legal advice or anything but if it was your case and you had the same senario would you go to the interview or just delay the process? and why ?
