OCTOBER 2026 VISA BULLETIN: F2A FILING IS CURRENT — WHO CAN MOVE FORWARD?

The October 2026 Visa Bulletin opens FY 2027 with movement across several family- and employment-based categories. One of the most notable family developments is that the F2A Dates for Filing chart is current for all countries.
Final Action Dates are different, and employment categories show a mix of advancement and retrogression. Whether an adjustment applicant may actually file also depends on which chart USCIS authorizes for the month.
This video explains the difference between being allowed to file and having a visa number available for final approval.
The October 2026 Visa Bulletin is out, and there are some important changes as the new fiscal year begins.
One of the biggest family-based developments is F2A — spouses and unmarried children under 21 of green card holders.
On the State Department’s October Dates for Filing chart, F2A is current for all countries.
But there is an important distinction. The Final Action Date is not current for everyone. For most countries, the October F2A Final Action Date is September 22, 2026, with a different date for Mexico.
So what does “current for filing” actually mean?
It can mean that qualifying applicants may be able to move forward with the application process without waiting for a filing cutoff date — but adjustment-of-status applicants must also check which Visa Bulletin chart USCIS authorizes for October.
Employment-based categories also changed. Some categories advanced, while some Rest of World employment categories retrogressed as the government manages the FY 2027 visa limits.
Important: A date becoming current on the filing chart does not automatically mean your green card can be approved immediately. Filing eligibility and final visa availability are two different questions.
Check your preference category, country of chargeability, priority date, and the USCIS monthly chart selection before filing.
