The Statement In a recent interview, Lyons confirmed that ICE will arrest anyone found to be in the U.S. illegally—even if they’ve never committed a crime. When asked directly, he said: If they are here in the United States illegally, yes, they will [be arrested]. Policy Shift This marks a major shift. Previously, ICE prioritized people with criminal records. Now, all undocumented individuals—including long-time residents, families, and workers—are being targeted. It’s a zero-discretion approach. Enforcement in Action ICE is making more arrests than ever—over 1,200 a day, and sometimes over 2,000. Many of those arrested have no criminal convictions. Agents are now detaining people inside courthouses, right after immigration hearings. That’s new—and controversial. Employers in the Crosshairs Lyons also warned businesses: ICE will crack down on companies that hire undocumented workers. He said, quote, enforcement will apply to employers, too.
