THE TRUMP “GOLD CARD” EXPLAINED / WHAT IT IS, REQUIREMENTS, AND WHAT’S COMING NEXT

The Trump administration officially launched a new immigration program known as the “Trump Gold Card.” This program has already generated huge controversy, because it creates a fast-track path to U.S. permanent residency for wealthy foreign nationals, while at the same time the administration is tightening asylum and humanitarian immigration. In this video, I will explain: • What the Trump Gold Card is • Who qualifies and how much it costs • How it actually works under U.S. immigration law • And what other related plans the administration has announced WHAT IS THE TRUMP GOLD CARD? The Trump Gold Card is a wealth-based immigration program that began accepting applications. Under this program, foreign nationals with significant financial resources can apply for U.S. lawful permanent residence, also known as a green card, by making a large financial contribution directly to the U.S. government. This is similar to what other countries call a “golden visa” program — but this is the first time the United States has attempted something like this on such a scale. Importantly, this is not a humanitarian program. It is not for refugees, asylum seekers, or family reunification. It is designed exclusively for the wealthy. KEY REQUIREMENTS For Individual Applicants To apply for the Trump Gold Card, an individual must: 1. Pay a $15,000 non-refundable processing fee to the Department of Homeland Security 2. Pass security, background, and vetting checks 3. After approval, make a $1 million contribution to the U.S. Treasury This $1 million is not an investment and not refundable. It is legally treated as a donation or “gift” to the U.S. government. For Families Spouses and children under 21 can be included, but each family member must also pay: • A separate $15,000 processing fee • And an additional $1 million contribution per person So for a family of four, the total cost can exceed $4 million. Corporate Sponsorship Option The administration has also introduced a corporate Gold Card option: • $2 million per sponsored employee • Intended for large corporations seeking to bring in high-level foreign workers HOW DOES IT WORK LEGALLY? This is a very important point. The Trump Gold Card is not a new visa category created by Congress. Instead, the administration is using existing employment-based immigrant visa categories, mainly EB-1 and EB-2, and allowing money to replace traditional requirements like: • Extraordinary ability • Advanced degrees • National interest waivers However: • Annual visa caps still apply • Country-based backlogs still apply So applicants from countries like India or China may still face long waiting times, even if they pay the full amount. PATH TO CITIZENSHIP If approved, Gold Card holders become lawful permanent residents. After meeting the standard residency requirements — usually five years — they can apply for U.S. citizenship, just like any other green card holder. There is no automatic citizenship. LEGAL AND POLITICAL CONTROVERSY This program has already raised serious legal questions. Immigration law in the United States is traditionally controlled by Congress, not the President. Legal experts argue that: • Selling green cards through executive action may exceed presidential authority • The program could face lawsuits or court challenges • A future administration could suspend or cancel it Critics also say this creates a two-tier immigration system: • One system for the wealthy • Another system with increasing barriers for asylum seekers, refugees, and low-income immigrants WHAT’S NEXT? THE “PLATINUM CARD” The administration has also announced plans for a “Platinum Card”, which is not yet fully implemented. Early details suggest: • A $5 million contribution • Possible tax benefits for time spent in the U.S.
